Hello Friends:

Do you enjoy an adventure? I do. I have run marathons, walked on fire, and even jumped off a 100 ft telephone pole in Hawaii (no, I was not drunk). This fall, I am walking 180 miles from the Alamo to Laredo, Texas, something I have dreamt about for 8 years. It might be my sort of “life-driven midlife crisis.” Over the course of some 425,000 steps, I hope God meets me and reinvigorates my life. The adventurous trek will be tremendously painful and greatly energizing. (It will also afford me some vivid preaching illustrations!)

Adventure refreshes the spirit. Even thinking about adventure can refresh the spirit.

May you be re-energized with a fresh vision of your own.

Nacho

P.S. Many have said they will walk with me all the way or part of the way. I will be sharing my reasons in coming days, please pray for my physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental state over the next 53 days. Oct. 4-12, 2008

Isaiah 43:19
For I am about to do something new.See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?I will make a pathway through the wilderness.I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

August 9th, 56 days left for Walk 180 – Awesome day yesterday, spent the whole day with 13 people from the church at a leadership conference, learning how to develop into a leader. In the evening at 7 p.m. I performed a wedding with a couple who had just come to faith in Jesus Christ last Wednesday, and at 8:15 I had the privilege of taking my wife out to dinner at a great restrauant (Vineyard). In all this I was still able to walk in the morning. This morning I am really tired, but have a desire to accomplish something with my life. I am passionate about reaching Hispanics in the Southwest corridor of the United States. Who will help me reach people far away from God?

August 8th, 57 days left for Walk 180 – Prayer is the key for America. If God’s people will turn back to Him then they must humble themselves and pray. In the mornings on my walks I pray for my family, church, missionaries, and country. This Walk 180 might not do anything, but it is doing something to me. I feel passionate about the injustices on the borders, high crime, prostitution, kidnapping, drugs, murders, and so much illegal suff happenning that only God can turn it around. Will you pray for me, so that the Word of God would spread thoughout our borders and restore hope to people that are in bondage. We cannot let this continue, enough is enough.

August 2, 2008 – 63 days left and I am now averaging 7-10 miles a day walking and my long walks are 12+… I have not lost much weight, but my clothes seem loosely fit. I feel better, and my prayer time has increased (praise God). I usually get up around 4 (when the Lord wakes me up) and start walking around 4:30 – 7:00 a.m., plus in the evening for one hour. Except for my 3 marathons, I have never exercised this much. I feel like I am training to play in a game or something. Training to walk 180 miles in 9 days is more than a game, it’s bringing to God a need to get me to turn back to Him. I will also fast & pray a few days before this walk, maybe in August. I want my head, spirit, body, to be in tune with Him. Our nation is in a crisis and we have the potential to turn this nation around. Will you pray for America? The crisis is real.

July 22, 2008 – 75 days left for walk 180 – 1 am sore all over my body as I am stretching my muscles and walking more each day. I am starting to walk in intervals, 2 minutes walking at a normal pace, 2 minutes walking at a faster pace, and 1 minute jogging. What this does is allow me to increase my walking speed. I guess walking two miles an hour is about all we will be able to do during Walk 180. I would like to walk more but I am not sure about others walking with me. Normally I could walk 3 or 4 miles in one hour. My thought for today is let’s fininsh these final few days and start the journey.

I am now averaging 2.5 – 3 hours a day walking and on Saturdays I usually have longer walks. In August I will start increasing my walk to 4 hours a day and 6-8 hours of walking on the weekend. I am beginning to feel the presure of this commitment. I am driven by the fact that God wants to reach people far away from Him and so this walk is for us to turn back to Him and seek the lost.

July 18, 2008 – 79 days left –

This fall, Passion For Mexico (an outreach extension of Grace Community Church) will sponsor a unique event we call, “Walk 180.” – a literal walk of about 180 miles from San Antonio (Alamo) to Laredo Texas. Moved by the increasing challenges in every walk of life, and the apparent decrease of hope and faith, we’re compelled to challenge people to redirect their lives and turn back to God.

Using the significance of the 180 degree turn needed for a true change of direction in life, Walk 180 will be both a spiritual and physical reminder of the need for all people to turn back to God.

We will begin at the Alamo in San Antonio on Saturday, October 4, 2008, and end at the border town of Laredo, on Sunday, October 12, using this location as another visual statement of the needs not only of those in the United States but Mexico as well.

The day God announced Moses would be a -rescuer- He said, “I have indeed seen the misery of My people in Egypt. I have heare them crying out…and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them” (Exodus 3:7-8). God the great Rescuer, the ultimate Deliverer used Moses to rescue His people, someone who could not even speak. That is why He sent Moses to the Jews. It is why He sent His “one and only Son” (John 3:16) to a world He so loves, to sin-slaves like us who were “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12).

Does anyone see what I see? I cannot let this happen and not do something. On Oct. 4th – 12th we will do something to start the awareness of our crisis. This Walk 180 will not only ask God to heal our land, but allow us to bring notice to the evil elements on our borders that enough is enough. We must fight for our land and turn back to God. Please register and join in today. By saying “yes” you are asking God to help us.

July 13, 2008 – 84 days left for Walk 180. Going to Mexico with 27 on the team, we went to Reynosa, Mexico which is a border city of about 1.5 million living in poverty across from McAllen, Texas. Fifty-four (54) people gave their lives to Jesus Christ. Team leader Kevin Adelsen said, “I don’t know where to begin to process what I expreienced this week with so many needs in Mexico.” Everything we planned to do, we did not do. It rained the first four days we were there and so we made changes and went to another church and did some construction work as well as VBS. On Wednesday at VBS 46 kids (a place where we were not suppose to be) came to faith in Jesus Christ. On Friday, 8 of our teens connected with Christ for the first time and 10 more rededicated their lives to Christ. Wow! It was unbelievable what God did. All we did was get onto His agenda and the harvest was there.

Our second day as we were prayer walking, we looked into one of the houses where some of the kids from VBS had come from and we did not see, a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer/dryer, a/c unit, no glass in the only window in the house, or any bathrooms. What we did see were two small rooms where 9 people lived, dirt floors, one light in each room, very old couch, two mattresses, one small kitchen table, and one small 13″ TV. This is typical in a third world country, you see poverty everywhere and you began to realize what comforts we do have in the United States. You never get used to the proverty, you want to do something, you long to give and the pain is in your heart asking God for help to learn from this experience. I usually want to run and hide and never come back. This time I asked the Lord to teach me what He wants me to learn, and what He sees.

We had some of our teens working on different projects at the church and I took some of the teens with me to go door-to-door in the morning and we did prayer walking through the neighborhoods in the afternoon. With everything not being what I expected or planned, I learned to trust & obey. Trusting God in situations you know and want is easy. Trusting God in a foreign land, where everything is different and your plans do not go according to your schedule is hard. But God is faithful, good and reliable.
